Occupational
Therapy for Adults
We support adults across Townsville to build everyday independence through occupational therapy. Whether it’s developing life skills, modifying your home, or getting the right assessment for NDIS, we work with you—not for you.
An Occupational Therapist (OT) helps people do everyday tasks more easily and independently.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy / Skill Building
From getting dressed and managing your money to catching public transport or preparing meals, our sessions are about real life. We practise in your space, on your terms—with just the right challenge to help you grow.
Getting Started / Initial OT Assessment
Every journey begins with a personalised assessment. We meet with you, your family, or support team, and complete functional tasks to understand your goals. Then we create a plan to guide your sessions and track your growth.
Therapy Assistants
Our Therapy Assistants work under OT supervision to deliver regular sessions in your home or community. They help bring your therapy plan to life in cost-effective, practical ways—maximising outcomes and value.
Finding and Keeping a Job
We support you to prepare for employment—through skills training, routine development, workplace navigation, and boosting confidence. Whether it’s paid work or volunteering, we help you take the next step.
Social Skills Group Therapy
We offer small group programs to help you build friendships and navigate social situations with more confidence. It’s fun, practical, and great for creating lasting community connections.
Home Assessments
Home Safety Assessment
Our OTs complete in-home assessments to identify risks and recommend practical changes—like grab rails or non-slip flooring—to keep you safe and independent at home.
Minor Home Modifications
We help arrange simple but effective changes such as ramps, lever taps, and shower seats. These updates make everyday tasks easier and reduce the risk of injury.
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) Assessments
For participants with high support needs, we provide detailed assessments and reports that align with SDA requirements—helping you access housing that suits your life and care level.
Specialist Assessments
Assistive Technology Prescription / Review
Need new equipment or a review of current tools? We assess, trial, and document the right assistive tech to support mobility, comfort, and everyday activities—backed by NDIS-compliant reports.
Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA)
An FCA is more than just a report—it’s a foundation for your entire NDIS plan. We look at your daily routines, strengths, challenges, and supports to recommend the services you need most.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) Assessments
We assess how much help you need at home and recommend the right support level—so you can live with others or on your own with confidence and clarity.
How do we help with these assessments?
Our experienced Occupational Therapists provide qualified FCA, SIL, and SDA assessments. We work closely with you, your family, and your support coordinator to gather the right evidence, conduct thorough assessments, and prepare clear, NDIS-ready reports that align with reasonable and necessary criteria.
Important note: While Propel Care provides assessments and part of the supporting evidence, funding decisions are always made by the NDIA, not by our team or the assessor.
| Assessment Type | What It Focuses On | Why It’s Needed | Who It’s For |
|---|---|---|---|
| FCA Functional Capacity Assessment | Looks at how your disability affects everyday activities (e.g., mobility, self-care, communication) | Provides evidence for general NDIS funding decisions, plan reviews, or new support requests | Participants needing updated evidence to show how their disability impacts daily life |
| SIL Supported Independent Living Assessment | Assesses your need for daily paid personal supports at home | Provides evidence for SIL funding requests, supporting the need for daily support workers at home | Participants seeking funding for help with personal care, routines, or daily living tasks |
| SDA Specialist Disability Accommodation Assessment | Looks at whether you need specialised housing due to extreme functional impairment or very high support needs | Provides evidence for SDA funding requests, supporting the need for specially designed or modified housing (not support workers) | Participants needing an SDA-approved property for access or safety needs |
